UPDATE, 6:19: Cash said this is “a big start” for McKay given his rough outing in San Diego, with three walks in the first and six total, and they want to see him trust his stuff and attack the zone more. ... Cash said he was “still thinking” about keeping Pham at the top of the order (vs. LHPs anyway) and still tinkering but it’s not out of the question. .. Mariners manager Scott Servais, on putting Mallex Smith back in the lineup after a two-day benching: "He’ll be ready to go. We certainly talked about where we’re at. Had conversations with him. He understands, he just wants to get out there and play and do his thing.'' ... Third-base coach Rodney Linares is away from the team today and possibly Tuesday on a personal matter; bench coach Matt Quatraro will fill in.
