Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field to host Yankees playoff watch party

The team will host a ALCS watch party at its spring training home Tampa

Just 21 miles away from the Rays’ Tropicana Field home in St. Petersburg, George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa will host a playoff watch party for the division rival Yankees.

The Yankees spring training home will host the watch party at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, showing game four of the American League Championship Series on the outfield video board.

The event, initially scheduled for Wednesday night, has been rescheduled to Thursday at 6:30 p.m. due to severe weather predictions in New York. There is currently a 100 percent chance of rain in New York City on Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, so Game 4 is likely to be delayed from Wednesday to Thursday.

Steinbrenner Field announced plans for the watch party on Oct. 9, while the Rays were still alive in postseason play. It could have ended up hosting Yankees fans, who would have been rooting against the hometown team, in Tampa.

The watch party is free to the public, and Steinbrenner Field has posted event information to Facebook. Fans can register for the event online at eventbrite.

Steinbrenner Field will host pregame events, including clubhouse tours and catch on the field. Concession stands will be open for the game.
