After beating Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees on Tuesday night in the Bronx, the Rays have an even greater challenge tonight as they face ace Gerrit Cole.
Since signing a nine-year, $324 million contract with the Yankees, Cole has won four of his five starts. The one no-decision was Aug. 8 against the Rays, when he allowed three runs on six hits and lasted only 4 2/3 innings. In his other four starts, he allowed six runs and 14 hits total.
The Rays are starting Tyler Glasnow who has yet to get in a groove after an abbreviated Spring 2.0 due to a case of COVID-19. He has not thrown five complete innings over his first four starts. On Thursday in Boston, he allowed five runs on eight hits over four innings, throwing 84 pitches.
