Coming off Monday’s 9-3 loss to the Yankees in the opening game of the best-of-five American League Division Series, the Rays are looking to get even tonight at San Diego’s Petco Park, first pitch 8:10 EST.
Tyler Glasnow, the Rays' hottest starter, will be on the mound against 21-year-old Yankees rookie Deivi Garcia — at least initially, with the potential for the Yankees to limit Garcia’s outing and bring in one of their lefties, J.A. Happ or Jordan Montgomery.
Manager Kevin Cash said Glasnow is the right choice for the Rays, given how he is equipped to shut down the Yankees lineup if he can land his curveball to complement his fastball, and the first 20 or so pitches should be telling.
Austin Meadows, who returned to active duty on Monday with a pinch-hit appearance, is in the lineup for the first time since sustaining a Grade 2 oblique strain on Sept. 17. He will bat leadoff and serve as the designated hitter. With Randy Arozarena too hot to keep out of the lineup and manager Kevin Cash preferring Manuel Margot for his outfield defense and Joey Wendle at third base, Yoshi Tsutsugo is again not starting.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the stadium crew was working to tighten up the wrapping on some of the outfield fencing to make sure the ball takes a true carom.
