Rays’ Brandon Lowe back at second base vs. Yankees

NEW YORK — The Rays are looking to make it a clean sweep of the Yankees tonight and will have Brandon Lowe at second base and veteran Corey Kluber on the mound.

Lowe hasn’t played second base in a week (since Aug. 10 in Milwaukee) due to a sore right shoulder. He has sat out two games, made a pinch-hit appearance in one and was the designated hitter in two others.

Lowe is 1-for-his-last-25 at the plate but said that he didn’t think the shoulder was impacting his swing.

Kluber, who spent last season with the Yankees, had faced his ex-mates twice this year, allowing just one earned run but going 0-1.

Also, Wander Franco is not expected to play for Triple-A Durham tonight after leaving his first rehab game on Tuesday with soreness in his surgically repaired right hand, but is not expected to be out long, manager Kevin Cash said.

Domingo German will start for the Yankees, who made several roster moves before the game.

Closer Clay Holmes (back) was placed on the injured list; infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar and outfielder Tim Locastro were optioned to Triple-A; infielder Oswaldo Cabrera, outfielder Estevan Florial and reliever Ron Marinaccio were called up.
