Rays open playoffs this afternoon vs. Guardians

Shane McClanahan will start on the mound. Yandy Diaz will lead off and play third base.

CLEVELAND — The Rays open the best-of-three Wild Card Series this afternoon against the Guardians with Shane McClanahan on the mound.

First pitch is at 12:07 p.m., the first of four games today across Major League Baseball.

Reliever Javy Guerra got the final spot on the Rays’ 26-man roster over JT Chargois, with lefty Jalen Beeks activated as expected from the injured list.

Here is the Rays’ 26-man roster:

PITCHERS (12): RH Jason Adam, RH Shawn Armstrong, LH Jalen Beeks, LH Garrett Cleavinger, RH Pete Fairbanks, RH Tyler Glasnow, RH Javy Guerra, RH Corey Kluber, LH Shane McClanahan, LH Brooks Raley, RH Drew Rasmussen, LH Jeffrey Springs

CATCHERS (2): Christian Bethancourt, Francisco Mejía

INFIELDERS (8): Jonathan Aranda, Vidal Bruján, Ji-Man Choi, Yandy Díaz, Wander Franco, Isaac Paredes, Harold Ramírez, Taylor Walls

OUTFIELDERS (4): Randy Arozarena, Manuel Margot, David Peralta, Jose Siri

Outfielder Josh Lowe was added to the taxi squad, along with catcher Rene Pinto, who was taken off the active roster with Francisco Mejia returning from the paternity list), and Chargois.

Rosters are reset for each round of the playoffs. The Rays also have some players working out at Triple-A Durham if needed later in the postseason.

With McClanahan starting today and Tyler Glasnow Saturday in Game 2, the Rays will wait to see how to best piece together their pitching if Game 3 is necessary on Sunday.

Expect Drew Rasmussen to be in the bullpen today and available for whatever is needed. The same with veteran Corey Kluber. Lefty Jeffrey Springs, who pitched Tuesday, could be in the pen on Saturday.
