As part of the redevelopment of the 86-acre Historic Gas Plant District, the stadium would be constructed near the current Tropicana Field site. It would open for the 2028 season.
Here’s how some people are reacting to the news on social media:
Love how they continue to ignore the glaringly obvious solution of moving to Tampa and instead are just gonna build a fancy new stadium and think everyone will come even though the commute will still be hell
"@raysbaseball has a year-over-year increase of 29.1%, (attendance) which is among the top half-dozen improvements in MLB in 2023. At their current pace, the Rays will finish with their best annual attendance in 10 years."

In today’s episode of how NOT to run a professional sports team. Rays primary problem: awful attendance. Rays “wise” solution: new stadium in the same area that’s unattractive and inaccessible to 95% of their fan base.

IMO the best part of the Rays stadium saga being over is that MLB can stop hanging cities over our head (wasn’t going to happen) — and now focus on bringing expansion teams to places like Nashville, Portland, etc.. #RaysUp
