PORT CHARLOTTE — Having joined baseball’s true elite in Cooperstown last year, Tampa native Fred McGriff will be inducted in the Rays’ Hall of Fame on Sept. 1.

McGriff, who was an original Devil Ray and ended his playing career in 2004 after a second stint with his hometown team, will be joined in the 2024 class by Dave Wills, the longtime radio announcer who died last March, and will be inducted April 14.

“I’m so deeply honored and humbled by the Rays’ gracious gesture,” McGriff said. “It means the world to me growing up and living in Tampa Bay. This is home. It will always be my home. And I will have a connection forever with the Tampa Bay Rays. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The Rays on Wednesday also announced their promotional giveaway schedule for the upcoming season, including items on the two induction days. For Wills, the first 12,000 fans — fittingly — will get a tropical shirt; for McGriff, a bobblehead.

One of the highlights of the Rays promotion schedule is the Flappy Boi Zip-Up Hoodie, slated to be given out Aug. 9 vs. Baltimore.

Highlights of the other nine promotional items for all fans include a Jose Siri replica necklace (March 31), pride jersey (June 8), Randy Arozarena streetwear shirt (July 12), Flappy Boi zip-up hoodie (Aug. 9), bobbleheads for Yandy Diaz (June 30) and Pete Fairbanks (July 28), and sherpa bucket hat (Aug. 16).

Highlights of the six giveaway items for kids 14 and under (first 5,000) include a Randy Arozarena Luchador mask (May 5), Josh Lowe sunglasses (May 26) and Isaac Paredes socks (June 9).

The Rays launched the team Hall of Fame last year to coincide with the celebration of their 25th anniversary season, inducting longtime coach/adviser Don Zimmer and former players Wade Boggs (also a Tampa product already in Cooperstown) and Carl Crawford.
