Florida State’s quarterbacks are sharp; can USF crack 20 at East Carolina?

The Seminoles haven’t led the ACC in passing since 2012. But they might do it this year.

Florida State enters its Homecoming game against Syracuse leading the ACC in completion percentage (66.2). If that holds, it would be the first since 2012 that the Seminoles led the league in that category. FSU hasn’t announced whether James Blackman or Alex Hornibrook will start — Blackman is the presumptive favorite — but either quarterback would get tested. Syracuse’s pass defense ranks No. 11 nationally in opponents’ completion percentage (52.1).

Can USF top 20?

USF has scored at least 20 points in eight of its nine all-time games against East Carolina. Doing it again might be a challenge. The Bulls have only hit that scoring mark in four of their seven games and travel to Greenville banged-up at quarterback, while East Carolina has a middle-of-the-pack defense. Three touchdowns might be enough to win. Can USF get there?

Davis charging at UCF records

UCF receiver Gabriel Davis has a chance to make history at Temple. His 10 touchdown catches are only four from tying the Knights’ single-season record (Bret Cooper, 1992). That might be a stretch in one game, but another 100-yard performance would be his fifth in a row and tie a program record.

Coastal chaos

If you think 5-2 Pitt will dominate 3-4 Miami at home, then you don’t know the ACC Coastal Division. Virginia beat Pitt, who topped Duke, who knocked off Virginia Tech, who toppled North Carolina, who crushed Georgia Tech, who stung Miami, who upset Virginia to complete the circle of chaos. Expect an ugly game with two good defenses, but knowing the Coastal, expect some ridiculous fun, too.
