Rick and Tom, the morning sports radio show hosted by Tampa Bay Times sports writer Rick Stroud and sports columnist Tom Jones, is off the air. The two were let go by WDAE-AM 620 and 95.3 FM after their program Friday.
Stroud and Jones had hosted the 6-9 a.m. show since May 2011. Both signed two-year contract extensions in May of this year.
Sam Nein, president of iHeartMedia Tampa Bay, confirmed that the show will be replaced by ESPN Radio's nationally syndicated Mike & Mike, hosted by Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic.
"Rick Stroud and Tom Jones are no longer part of the WDAE morning show," Nein said in a text message. "We appreciate all of their contributions during their time with us and wish them well."
"I cannot thank iHeart and WDAE enough for the opportunity they gave us," Jones said. "I loved every second of it. I loved talking to Tampa Bay sports fans on a daily basis, and I loved working with Rick. I'm definitely going to miss it. Hopefully Rick and I get the chance to do it again some day."
Said Stroud: "Tom and I had a blast doing the show. … I know we developed a huge following in Tampa Bay and will miss sharing our mornings with all our listeners."
