Jason Pierre-Paul joins very small Bulls-to-Bucs fraternity

Until now, only five former USF players have appeared in a regular-season game for Tampa Bay.

The Bucs' acquisition Thursday of DE Jason Pierre-Paul will make him unquestionably the most prominent former USF player to wear a Tampa Bay uniform.

But will he also have the most individual success in pewter of any Bulls player? Probably.

Our research indicates only 17 former Bulls have appeared on the Bucs roster in some capacity (including practice squad), and only five have appeared in a game for Tampa Bay. Here they are (If you blinked, you probably missed their Bucs tenures.)

LS Ryan Benjamin (2001, 2003-04)
A member of USF's inaugural 1997 team, Benjamin bounced around a few NFL camps before hooking up with the Bucs and earning a Super Bowl ring as long snapper for the their only world championship team (2002). He appeared in 27 games in the 2002-03 seasons, and now is coach at River Ridge High, his alma mater.

LB Nigel Harris (2017)
A Hillsborough High alumnus, Harris became the first individual to play his prep and college ball in Tampa and appear in a regular-season game for the Bucs, when he played 17 snaps on special teams in their Week 17 win against the Saints last season. He remains on the roster.

CB Mike Jenkins (2014-15)
A half-decade after his Pro Bowl season in Dallas, Jenkins signed a one-year free-agent deal with the Bucs in 2014, suffered a pectoral strain on opening day and went on injured reserve. The following season was a bit more productive (five starts, 17 tackles, five pass deflections).

LB Tyrone McKenzie (2010)
After being released from the Patriots' practice squad, McKenzie — a former first-team All-Big East pick — was signed to the Bucs' practice group in November 2010. A month later, he made the active roster, won an in-house special teams award after a win against Seattle, and later had three tackles in a win over the Saints.

OL Jeremiah Warren (2015)
This behemoth from the Panhandle, who played in the 2012 East-West Shrine Game, joined the Bucs' practice squad in November 2014, and signed a futures contract two months later. He appeared in three games for the Bucs in 2015 — his only three NFL games on record.
