AMHERST, Mass. — Jordan Cronkrite ran for 302 yards and three touchdowns, and USF improved to 5-0 for the second straight season by beating UMass 58-42 on Saturday afternoon.

Cronkrite, a three-star recruit who played sparing for Florida in 2015 and 2016, set USF and American Athletic Conference single-game records with his rushing yardage.

"It was a great job by the offensive line. I was just using my God-given skills and just doing what I could to help my team win," he said.

The game was originally scheduled to be played last year in Tampa but was moved due to Hurricane Irma.

The Bulls' Tyre McCants pulled in a 72-yard touchdown pass from Blake Barnett in the first minute and Brennon Dingle pulled in a 31-yard pass from the Minutemen's Andrew Ford to tie the score at 7 two minutes later.

Johnny Ford ran 19 yards for at a score with 1:31 left in the half to put USF up 20-14, and Cronkrite took over in the third quarter with touchdown runs of 77, 30 and 76 yards to make it 48-28 going into the fourth.

This was Cronkrite's first multi-touchdown game of the season and his third straight game topping 100 yards at USF.

And it is the second straight game that Cronkrite has come up big for the Bulls.

His 80-yard touchdown run against East Carolina two weeks ago proved to be the winner. The Bulls had a bye last week.

Despite Cronkrite's success, coach Charlie Strong wasn't happy with the total effort.

"We've got to play better than how we played," Strong said. "Cronkrite, big day for him, and we ended up with five turnovers (four fumbles, one interception) with the defense. But we're a better football team than what we're showing right now. We've got to put it together."

Barnett finished 17-for-24 for 209 yards on Saturday, with a touchdown and an interception.

Ford was 19-of-27 for 199 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for UMass (2-5).

Saturday's game ended the non-conference slate for USF, which extended its nation's-best streak of 20-plus point games to 35 in a row.
