District wrestling: Jesuit repeats as champ

TAMPA — Saturday's Class 2A, District 8 championship for Jesuit marked the fourth in a row for the program.

The host Tigers (232.5 points) won sizably over both Gaither (155.5) and Robinson (146) on the way to the title, qualifying 11 wrestlers for next weekend's region tournament at Brandon.

Four of five former district champions for Jesuit, Jarrett Roop (106), R.C. Consuegra (126), Adam Lewis (145), Brian Buser (170), and Nick Mosco (220), won their respective weight classes again. Roop fell by a 10-2 major decision in his final to Gaither's Krystian Velez. Jonathan Shaw (195) also won his first district crown in a 13-0 major decision over Jefferson's Gary Spencer.

Gaither, advancing eight to region, earned individual titles with Velez and Brad Bolesta (152) garnering gold. Robinson, which also advanced eight to next weekend's tournament, had four district titles, including Lance Peltier (106), Jose Munoz (120), Jermein Rivera (132), and Charles Heidt (138).

Perennial state contender Robert Mosley (285) won his title in a pin over Robinson's Jacob Wyre, and Leto's Yariel Ochoa (160) rounded out the champions with his 9-7 decision over Jesuit's Connor Mueller.
