ST. PETERSBURG —The 40th Avenue NE bridge will be closed from Monday until May 22 for interim repairs. Evan Birk, an employee of the city’s Public Works Department, said the repairs will set the bridge up for final construction, add a pedestrian and bike path and make it easier for emergency vehicles to get through. No date has been set for final construction. The conceptual design has to be approved at federal, state and local levels before it is finalized. The bridge has been partially closed since August 2017, when structural issues were found during an inspection.
