It's getting mighty hard to tell what decade it is around the Things to Do department this week, what with this giant package about all of the '80s entertainment coming back this year and this review of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie reboot, not the '60s TV classic.
Now let's throw things even farther back to the 1950s and Hank Williams!
Today Sony Pictures Classics released a first official photo of Tom Hiddleston (Loki in the Marvel movies, for the unknowing) as Williams in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light, which movie critic Steve Persall and I have been gushing about occasionally.
The photo reminds me of this iconic photo of Hank Williams, sans epic crawfish tie.
As if the Internet hadn't given me enough reasons to love Tom Hiddleston (see BuzzFeed's 49 reasons PLUS 29 other reasons), he's got to go and play one of my all time favorite artists. If you're giving me some serious side-eye right now and possibly asking for my birth certificate, well, Move It on Over. A little more than a decade ago, yours truly was the wide-eyed preteen wandering through the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, gazing in awe at the pale blue Cadillac he died in (OKAY, YEAH THAT'S MORBID) and begging my parents to go see Kaw-Liga and buy me merch (Hank's face peeled off of the T-shirt within a week or two).
If you're spending the days until the Nov. 27 release Moanin' the Blues, Honky Tonkin' and eating Jambalaya (on the bayou, natch) like I am, console yourself with this video of Hiddleston singing a Hank song last year (a little lacking in the whine department) and also this photo he tweeted last year of himself in character.
