Tampa Bay Fashion Week is back with some major changes

Hot off the presses (dresses?), we have information on this year's Tampa Bay Fashion Week.

The headline this year: NO RUNWAY SHOW.

The organizers have decided to swap the traditional runway show of fashions made by local and national designers in favor of trying something new: A designer trunk show at International Plaza. The aim is to get more people actually buying clothes from local designers, not just looking at them.

In a statement, Tampa Bay Fashion Week organizers said:

"When we launched Tampa Bay Fashion Week (aka Fashion Week Tampa Bay) in 2008, our goal was to highlight emerging and established designers in our region and help to build the fashion community in our area. We're proud to be one of the players who has steadily evolved over the years, and appreciate you all coming along for the ride with us!

There have been a variety of changes in our emerging fashion community and across the state and country in the fashion industry. Boutiques have opened and closed, designers have launched and faded away, fashion shows have come and gone and come again. It's just the nature of change, life and business."

So, now for that change.

From Sept. 16-19, the PURE Haus event at the mall will feature presentations from this list of designers in a storefront near Neiman Marcus. You can look, and you can buy, even ordering custom creations.

Other fashion week events include fashion stylist consultations at the mall, the annual invite-only VIP Model Behavior After-Party, the Swanky Soirée at the Mahaffey Theater to benefit Brookwood Florida and Kid Couture at the Glazer Children's Museum.

Here at Deal Divas, we've gone to just about every Tampa Bay Fashion Week runway show ever, so we admit it makes us a little sad not to have one to attend this year. But it will be interesting to see how this goes. I talked to organizer Nancy Vaughn, who is looking at this approach very much in the spirit of experimentation and keeping things fresh. We'll keep reporting on the changing fashion scene in Tampa Bay as the events get closer, and as always, your Deal Divas will head out to the various events as we can to fill up your social media with glitter, so be sure to follow along.
