TAMPA — An exchange of gunfire outside a supermarket resulted in a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle trying to flee the chaos, according to police.
The male pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said, and the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with officers.
The incident took place at about 3:50 p.m. outside Royal Supermarket at 420 E Floribraska Ave.
It started when several males were involved in some sort of altercation that resulted in gunfire, police said. A silver 4-door sedan was driving toward E Hugh Street when police said a rear passenger fired a gun in the air.
Another male involved in the incident then fired on the silver car, police said, but hit the wrong vehicle, then ran away.
A Dodge Charger tried to drive away from the gunshots, police said, but ended up hitting a male pedestrian who was also trying to get away. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital. Police did not release the names of the injured pedestrian or driver.
Police are looking to arrest those involved in the shooting incident. The investigation is continuing.
