1 Canine Estates Howl-O-Ween: A Halloween party for dogs with goodie bags, rescue groups, music, games, a "Tricks for Treats" contest, auction, raffles, costume contest and Halloween photos. Kids and owners should come in costume too because they qualify for a few categories in the costume contest. Benefits Canine Estates dog rescue. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. 2 Straz Live on the River: The performing arts center is having a free Open House party with backstage tours and entertainment including DJ Cutty Jones, the Opera Tampa Singers and local performers. The new Art on the Walk exhibit will be unveiled with live painting by local artists, plus a KidZone stocked with face-painting, games, crafts, a gourmet popsicle truck and backstage tours. 3 Movies in the Park: The popular series in Straub Park features live music and classic films every Thursday this month, offering a great picnic option for families or a date night. Thursday features Mr. Smith Goes to Washington with music by Este Loves and Friends; next week is Clueless and Nichols & Hopper. Donations are appreciated. The music starts at 6 p.m. and movies at dusk. Beach Drive between Fourth and Fifth Avenue NE.

4 Oktoberfest at the Hofbrauhaus: The gorgeous beer hall is diving into Oktoberfest season with nightly German music, food and dancing through Oct. 21. They also will have face painting and balloon twisters on Tuesdays, the Hofbrau Hauswives Afterhours Drag Show on Thursdays and the Bier Olympics on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 13. No cover. 5 Viva Tampa Bay: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at this family art and cultural festival with performances by Charlie Cruz and Plena Mar Latino, Latin food, dance exhibitions and recognition of influential area Hispanic leaders. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
