1Tampa Bay International Dragon Boat Races: Paddlers from across the globe will be racing their long, slim craft in Garrison Channel, each adorned with a dragon's head in front and tail in back. With 20 paddlers, a person steering in the back and a drummer up front to keep the beat, they are a model of precise teamwork to win. It's free for spectators to watch 8:30 a.m.-

2 Blast Friday: Catch a free concert by the10,000 Maniacs on Friday at this family-friendly block party in downtown Clearwater. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the band's 1993 iconic performance on MTV's Unplugged, one that went on to sell millions of records. That same year, Mary Ramsey, a backing vocalist on Unplugged, began her tenure as lead singer for the band after Natalie Merchant left to pursue a solo career. The free gathering features food and craft vendors and a beer garden from 5:30-10 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Cleveland Street.
3 Pinellas Pepper Fest: This spicy food show returns to Pinellas Park's England Brothers Bandshell Park this weekend with live entertainment and contests like pepper eating and amateur salsa. There's also a range of sauces, spices and pepper plants for sale 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
