What’s new in food: Sorrento Sweets will open in Hyde Park, Lucky’s Market loves chiles

SWEET ADDITION: SORRENTO SWEETS

Hyde Park Village has announced the signing of a new lease with Sorrento Sweets, an old-world Italian bakery, at 716 S Village Circle. Sorrento Sweets was founded in Pasco County and this new location will sell Italian cakes, pastries and cookies made out of its Pasco facility. That, plus gelato shakes, gelato floats, espresso drinks and more. Sorrento Sweets will open in Hyde Park Village this fall.

Salvatore Paturzo, master baker and partner, was born and raised in Sorrento, Italy, where he took over his fatherís bakery at 10. For more than 16 years, he and his wife Rose have operated Sorrentoís in Pasco County, known for baked goods and family recipes from the 1960s.

Also slated to open soon in Hyde Park Village are Station House, Meat Market and Clean Juice.

LUCKYíS: CHILES

To celebrate the spicier things in life and peak green chile season, Luckyís Market, which recently opened at 6765 22nd Ave. N in St. Petersburg, is hosting an annual Green Chile Fest through Aug. 29 at all of its Florida stores, giving Florida shoppers a first taste of the world-famous authentic roasted New Mexico Hatch Green Chiles. The grocer is also offering a specialty "green chile mocktail" as Luckyís Market roasters roast the hatch green chiles onsite for sampling and purchase. RED HOT: BIG SCREEN

Paulís Landing at the Vinoy is hosting its second outdoor cinema event and partnering with Old St. Pete Distillery. The film in question? Itís a summertime classic, Some Like It Hot, to be screened at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31, al fresco. Kick off Labor Day weekend with the screening and the release of the new Paulís Landing Spirits Beach Drive White Rum, Founderís Vodka and Tropical Gin (developed with the distillery). The end of summer party will feature two refreshing signature cocktails ó the "Citrus Needy" and the "Cucumber Cooler" ó as well as a special summery menu (chilled jumbo gulf shrimp, beet- and vodka-cured smoked salmon, rum-glazed chicken skewers, etc.).
