See 'Beetlejuice' followed by ghost tour of historic Capitol Theatre

In a first for Clearwater's Capitol Theatre, Sept. 19 brings a screening of Beetlejuice, Tim Burton's quirky 1988 gem about the troubles of the recently deceased, followed by a haunted ghost tour of the Capitol, built in 1921 and filled with stories of things that go bump in the night. Tickets for the movie are $6, and it's one of Burton's best about an obnoxious ghost (Michael Keaton) who brings together outcasts who learn to embrace weirdness. The ghost tour is $28. A limited number of tickets that include the movie and ghost tour are $30 at the Ruth Eckerd Hall ticket office, 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater or by calling (727) 791-7400. A news release from the Capitol says that, like Burton's movie, the tour is more playful with the paranormal than sinister: "Several small groups starting at staggered times will be led through the theater to experience paranormal activity along with some stories from the buildings 94 years of history. The tour is for all ages and family friendly." — Sharon Kennedy Wynne, Times staff writer
