Things to Do in Pasco and Hernando counties starting Sept. 28

Festivals

Hispanic Heritage Festival: The second annual event will be from 2 to 10 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by experiencing the culture with live music, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, beer, wine, frozen sangria, a domino tournament and the crowning of Miss Hispanic Queen Hernando County. The domino tournament starts at 3 p.m (entry fee is $5, with cash prizes awarded). No coolers or outside food. Festival admission is free; parking is $5. Call (352) 346-3531.

Latin Festival: Explore Latino heritage at this festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at Avalon Park West Community Center, 5227 Autumn Ridge Drive, Wesley Chapel. With Latin-themed music, food and dancing. Free. Call (813) 783-1515.

Brooksville Paranormal Experience: The event, hosted by the May-Stringer House/Hernando Heritage Museum and PKC (Paranormal Kicks Cancer), will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at the museum, 601 Museum Court, downtown Brooksville. Featuring vendors, food trucks, exhibits, psychic readings and tales of the 'other' side. The paranormal experience is for ages 12 and older; tickets are $8 advance, $10 cash at the door. Inter-Tribal Native American Pow-Wow: The event will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell. Featuring native dances, music, crafts, food, demonstrations, storytelling, and vendors. The park entrance fee is $3 per vehicle, $2 bicyclist or walk-in. Papa Joe's annual Pasta Fest: This year's event, which will benefit the the Veterans' HEAT (Honoring, Empowering, Assisting and Training) Factory to help veterans with PTSD, will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 2 at Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant, 6244 Spring Lake Highway, east of Brooksville. Includes entertainment, door prizes, horse-drawn Sicilian cart rides, games and concessions for the kids, face painting and more. Admission is free; all-you-can-eat pasta is 99 cents (take-out orders available). Call (352) 799-3904.

Radio Control Model Airplane Meet: The Bay City Flyers will conduct their annual “Golden Era” fly in 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at Area 52 Flying Field, 22500 State Road 52, Land O’ Lakes. Featuring scale models of full-size aircraft from 1919-1939, including biplanes, fighter planes and civilian aircraft. Flyers from throughout the Tampa Bay area will be participating. Scare zone

Scream-A-Geddon: The event continues this weekend at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28-30, then daily from Oct. 4-Nov. 3, at 27839 Saint Joe Road, Dade City. The annual event features numerous haunted attractions spread across 60 acres. New this year is Rage 3D, Demon’s Revenge and Zombie Paintball Assault, in which participants hunt, shoot and "kill" zombies. On, In and By the Water: The exhibit, which features artwork depicting water, is on display through Oct. 6 at the Uptown Art Gallery at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville. Snapshots of the Mesozoic: A New View of Dinosaurs: Sculptor Lyn Joyce’s exhibit is on display through Oct. 17 at Pasco-Hernando State College Rao Musunuru, M.D. Art Gallery, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. This is an adult-only event presented by the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce that includes sampling beer and wine while listening to live music by the Bearded Brothers Band.
