A FINE TRADITION: CRAFTART FESTIVAL

For 20 years now, Florida CraftArt has been welcoming the season with its annual CraftArt Festival, which returns Saturday and Sunday to downtown St. Petersburg. Unlike other art festivals, you won't find straight-forward painting or photography here, but you won't miss them, either. Instead, the festival highlights many of the country's best fine craft artists, working in glass, ceramics, wood, metal, fiber, mixed media and jewelry. There will be many works that will have you wondering, "How did they do that?" The festival, held on the crossroads of Central Avenue and Fifth Street, also features artist demonstrations, food trucks, craft beers and children's activities. Continue to be inspired inside Florida CraftArt, 501 Central Ave., where the Holiday Boutique is in full swing. (727) 821-7391. floridacraftart.org.

FLY YOUR FLAG: PLEDGES OF ALLEGIANCE

Did you ever imagine you'd get a chance to see a design by Yoko Ono in Tampa, for free? Now you can, thanks to the Pledges of Allegiance flag project, which has come to USF's Contemporary Art Museum. The project, a national public art initiative created by arts organization Creative Time, places artist-designed flags at institutions to encourage a sense of community. At USFCAM, the project has been going on since July, but on Nov. 7, Ono's flag was raised. The Imagine Peace flag is inspired by a concept developed by Ono and her late husband, John Lennon. Ono has spread the Imagine Peace initiative around the world, in more than 24 languages, as billboards, posters, newspaper advertisements, badges, tweets and other media. The flag is being flown simultaneously by USFCAM and 13 locations throughout the country. As part of Pledges of Allegiance, the flags are rotated on a monthly basis, so go catch it while it's up. 3821 Holly Drive, Tampa. cam.usf.edu.
