TAMPA — A water main break near the Brorein Street Bridge brought added congestion to downtown on Thursday morning. But the good news is that city officials said repairs should be done early and the intersection of E Brorein Street and S Ashley Drive should be reopened to traffic by Friday morning.
"The good news is we are ahead of schedule," said Elias Franco, a manager with the water department.
Normal traffic patterns are expected before Friday morning traffic.
The broken water main resulted in the closure of the Brorein and Ashley intersection. The city learned of the water main break on Brorein at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Franco said.
Police asked drivers to use Cass Street or Kennedy Boulevard to travel west of the river.
It originally appeared as if it would take until 5 p.m. Monday to reopen the intersection but crews worked through the night to fix the break, then moved on to patching up the road again.
