The Clearwater Marine Aquarium releases an endangered loggerhead sea turtle on the sands of Clearwater Beach. The 107-pound sub-adult female named “Nitro”, was found floating by a boater near Hurricane Pass in Pinellas County.

Nitro arrived at CMA on August 13, 2019. Upon intake, Nitro appeared lethargic and slightly thin. She had thick algae coverage and several barnacles on her carapace (shell). It appears Nitro had some gastrointestinal issues, resolved with a treatment protocol that included fluids, a special diet, exercise and vitamins.

After a short period in rehab at CMA, Nitro has been cleared for release back into the wild by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the veterinary staff at CMA.
