Tampa-based filmmakers Shady Mawajdeh and Talha Khan will screen their new short film, “American Immigrant,” in Hyde Park.

Directed by Mawajdeh and shot by Khan, “American Immigrant” is a film that highlights the immigrant experience and struggle.

They found it crucial to raise awareness about the hardships that immigrants may face and to defy stereotypes often made about them.

Mawajdeh and Khan met in high school and they’ve been in touch ever since. Along with their friends, they directed and shot the trailer of “American Immigrant.”

A film screening will take place at the Hyde House theatre Aug. 13, from 7 to 10 p.m. The event will also feature comedians Rami Abushhab and Younis Dhaher, as well as the local indie band GLAZE.
