Jamerson Elementary students enjoy 'Snow Day'

Pre-k through fifth-grade students at Douglas L. Jamerson Jr. Elementary were rewarded with snow for their annual 'Snow Day' Friday at the school in St. Petersburg.

Pre-k through fifth-grade students at Douglas L. Jamerson Jr. Elementary were rewarded with snow for their annual 'Snow Day' Friday at the school in St. Petersburg. 577 students had the opportunity to build snowmen, throw snowballs and slide down snow on sleds. Each year the PTA pays for the snow. The annual event is sponsored by the school's Parent-Teacher Association and celebrates the work of students during the first semester of school.

  7. Archaeologists say Zion Cemetery likely was full when it disappeared in the late 1920s. This map of Zion was filed with the Hillsborough County Clerk when Zion was established on Feb. 20, 1901.  The cemetery on North Florida Avenue contained 98 plots, each 20 feet wide and with room for about eight graves. That's a total of about 800 graves. There was also a potters field on the north end of the cemetery for people who couldn't afford a coffin.
