Tampa Bay Weather

Dry air remains intact across Tampa Bay, but Florida’s east coast on alert for Florence

Tampa Bay will continue seeing mostly sunny days throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend with a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Wednesday’s temperatures will rise to around 92, but feel hotter due to the humidity. There will be a little bit of cloud cover throughout the day, with a 30 percent chance of rain early in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The 10-day outlook for the Tampa Bay area

A western flowing air pattern will continue pushing storms out into the gulf, except for when the coastal breeze is able sneak a few storm clouds overhead. Expect many of the scattered storms and thunderstorms to be centered on the coastline Wednesday.

Overnight temperatures will drop down to the mid 70s with partly cloudy skies. There is a chance for some rain activity in the late hours before dawn.

This summertime pattern of hot temperatures and partly cloudy skies continues Thursday.

As Hurricane Florence makes landfall near the Carolinas early Friday morning, its impact across the southeast United States is still unknown. Outer rain bands could reach as far out as the gulf, depending on the storm’s trajectory, according to Tony Hurt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in ruskin.

The largest impact on Florida will be felt on the East Coast, Hurt said. Tides will become stronger and rip current advisories could be issued from Jacksonville to Melbourne over the weekend.
