Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be a persistent problem and dampen Tampa Bay's afternoons throughout this week. Many of these storms won't move inland until after lunchtime, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday's forecast begins with a smattering of showers along the Gulf Coast through the morning. Skies for most of the day will be partly cloudy with highs in the low 90s by the afternoon. Humidity will drive the heat index up to around 103, forecasters said.
EXTENDED FORECAST: The 10-day outlook for the Tampa Bay area
There is a 30-50 percent chance of being caught in an afternoon storm. The highest chance of rain is inland near the I-4 corridor, where the coastal breeze is expected to push storms before they dissipate overnight.
Evening temperatures will drop to the mid 70s with partly cloudy skies. A few scattered showers could develop back near the coast.
Expect much of the same on Tuesday with highs reaching the low 90s and scattered showers at their most active by the afternoon.
Closer to the weekend, rain chances will increase to around 50-60 percent in the late afternoon as a low pressure system brings a western flowing wind that will drag scattered storms from the East Coast.
