Tampa Bay Weather

Seasonal weather with slightly higher rain chances expected in Tampa Bay this weekend

The seasonal pattern of dry mornings followed by wetter afternoons will continue throughout the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Low atmospheric pressure moving to the area could increase those rain chances as things heat up. Afternoon heating combined with plenty of moisture in the atmosphere will bring rain chances as high as 70 percent Friday. The highest chance for rain will remain along Interstate 75 as a weak seabreeze comes in from the west coast.

Forecasters expect the seabreeze to be stronger Saturday, making it further inland as that moisture remains for another day of 50-to-70 percent rain chances.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The 10-day outlook for the Tampa Bay area

Weekend temperatures are expected to be seasonal as well, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s during the day, dropping to the mid-70s overnight.

Things could get wetter Sunday, though. Low pressure in the upper atmosphere will bring wider spread coverage of storms and showers as weekend come to a close, forecasters said.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay area isn’t under current threat of hurricanes. As of early Friday, Gordon had powered down to a tropical depression and was making its way through Arkansas. Forecasters are currently monitoring Tropical Storm Florence as it nears the East Coast, as well as two tropical waves near the west coast of Africa that are expected to form into depressions within the next 24 hours.

The National Hurricane Center reports that Florence is expected to become a major hurricane sometime Monday, with winds going over 110 mph as it heads between Bermuda and the Bahamas by mid-week, if its current track holds.
