Florida freshman QB Treon Harris remains suspended indefinitely from team activities during an investigation for sexual assault, and Florida coach Will Muschamp said the team is trying to move forward and prepare for Saturday night's game against LSU.
The Gators will host LSU at 7:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
"It's a serious charge," Muschamp said. "There's been no change in Treon's status and I really don't have anything to add on the situation at this time.''
Harris was suspended indefinitely from the team amidst allegations of sexual battery involving an 18-year-old UF female student. The alleged incident occurred early Sunday morning in the Springs Residence Hall on the UF campus, according to police reports.
No charges have been filed, and it is currently a pending investigation. UPD is the lead investigator and has asked the Gainesville Police Department to assist with the collection of analysis and forensic evidence, Florida officials said.
Muschamp made his first public appearance today after postponing his weekly press conference on Monday in the wake of the Harris allegations.
"I know a lot of you guys will have questions about the Treon Harris situation," he said today at a press conference. "The statement that the university released Monday I think was pretty self-explanatory. It's a very serious charge and there's been no change in his status. So that's kind of where we are. I don't have anything additional to add. I know some of you still will ask questions, but I'm not going to have any other comment on the situation. (I'm) sorry to inconvenience you guys, but with the situation Monday and the seriousness of it, I felt like it was a little insensitive to have a football press conference. I think it is today, too. But we've got to move forward."
Harris led the Gators to a fourth-quarter 10-9 win over Tennessee this past Saturday, and was widely expected to earn the starting job this week.
Muschamp said junior Jeff Driskel will start against LSU and freshman QB Will Grier and third-year sophomore Skyler Mornhinweg have taken snaps this week. No decision has been made on which player will backup Driskel.
