Let HCC adjuncts vote Adjunct professors deserve decent pay As a student at Hillsborough Community College I am concerned to learn that adjunct professors don't make a fair wage and are being denied their right to vote for a union. I'm upset that they don't get paid a fair wage like full-time professors. I am also disappointed to learn that HCC is using taxpayer dollars to delay this process for adjuncts. People like me depend highly on our adjunct professors for an advanced learning experience and HCC promises us an individualized learning experience. How can adjuncts provide that for us if they are forced to work at more than one school to survive? The majority of the professors at my HCC are adjuncts and we depend on them for our success. I understand that HCC is going through the accreditation process this fall. HCC should be working with faculty instead of using taxpayer money to fight them during this important process. Let adjuncts vote!Latonya Sams , Brandon City of Tampa Rent It Right Program New program is a burden on good landlords We should ask the City of Tampa leaders how this new program enhances their ability to hold landlords to the basic standards that have always been required by law in the City of Tampa Codes and Florida's Landlord Tenant Act. Historically, landlords must apply and pay for City of Tampa Rental Certificates which require periodic inspections. Have these been ineffective? Why does the City of Tampa feel the need to add another layer of regulation? What additional powers does this new reporting requirement provide them? The new program requires landlords to provide sensitive information about their tenants. Where else in the United States do governments require landlords report information about their tenants?Yes, a small percentage of landlords are bad apples. It's not hard to identify these offenders. Why do we need new sweeping government regulation to police ALL landlords? Certainly, our Tampa leaders can utilize a proven 20/80 rule to apply their limited resources to the most egregious offenders.Joe Schwartz, Tampa
