The newly born Hurricane Gustav moved into the northeastern Caribbean with 80 mph winds Sunday, tailed in the mid-Atlantic about 1,000 miles to the east by Tropical Storm Hortense. At 6 p.m. Sunday, Gustav, which reached hurricane strength earlier in the day, was centered near latitude 15.1 north, longitude 56.9 west, or about 300 miles east-southeast of Guadeloupe. It was moving west-northwest near 10 mph. Maximum sustained winds were near 80 mph. Hortense was centered near latitude 17.8 north, longitude 40.1 west, moving north at 10 mph.Iced tea saves woman's life GUILFORD, Conn. _ A woman whose car crashed and burst into flames Saturday was rescued by a quick-thinking couple who used a jug of iced tea to douse the flames. Police said Natalie A. Corcoran, 60, was driving north on Interstate 95 at about 7 p.m. when her car slammed into a highway sign, flipped over and skidded along the road, bursting into flames. Michael Rodrigue, a Sarasota firefighter and paramedic, and his wife, Kim, a registered nurse, pulled over to help her, grabbing a plastic jug of iced tea from their car to douse the flames.
