Zephyrhills High product Dave Eiland has come full circle, announcing last week that he had signed with the San Diego Padres' Las Vegas Stars Class AAA affiliate. When the right-handed pitcher was reassigned to the minors by the New York Yankees last month, he said Yankees management had made a "stupid move," that "they weren't doing anything to help me on the field" and that he was "looking forward to leaving." But Eiland, 25, changed his tune when it came out that New York was willing to sign him to a lucrative contract and would invite him to its major-league camp. "It's not as big a deal as I thought it was," Eiland said. So much for that. Eiland said San Diego will pay him more than New York had offered (more than $100,000), and that the Padres also wanted him to attend their major-league camp. "I was tired of putting up with their lies and their indecisiveness," Eiland said of Yankees management. Eiland, drafted by the Yankees in 1987, went 2-5 with a 5.33 ERA in 72 innings during a 1991 season that was interrupted by a heel injury. He went 2-1 with a 3.56 ERA during the final weeks of the 1990 season after posting a 16-5 record for New York's AAA affiliate in Columbus, Ohio.
