Michael Jordan's technical foul with 4:25 left in the fourth quarter helped change the momentum of Game 2. Chicago led 92-82 when Jordan was whistled for a technical after telling referee Jess Kersey what he thought of a foul he received for a hand check on Portland guard Terry Porter. Portland then outscored Chicago 15-5 down the stretch to force overtime. The Blazers won 115-104. Jordan: "I said something I shouldn't have. It seemed to cost us some momentum." Bulls coach Phil Jackson: "I think Michael's technical stopped our momentum." Portland guard Danny Ainge: "I think the technical was the big turning point." Take that Porter didn't miss a chance to get back at critics who have said the Blazers are a dumb team. Porter: "The guys on our team are mentally tough." Home cooking Porter doesn't like the 2-3-2 format for the finals. Chicago played host to the first two games. Portland will play host to the next three and Chicago to the last two (if they are necessary). "It's awfully hard to beat a team three straight times, especially in the finals," Porter said. "What it basically means is that you're probably not going to win the championship on your home court. When it was the other way (2-2-1-1-1), you could win two straight games (at home). But three that formula makes it very tough. "I guess they changed because of the travel, but they could change it back, as far as I'm concerned." Haunting years ago, the Bulls acquired guard Steve Colter from the Blazers. As part of the deal, Chicago gave its 1992 second-round draft choice to Portland. So with the '92 draft not scheduled until June 24, how come that pick already has hurt the Bulls in this series? Because the Blazers used the pick in a 1990 deal with Sacramento that brought Ainge to Portland. In the overtime of Game 2, Ainge had nine of the Blazers' 18 points, outscoring the Bulls _ who had seven _ by himself. Ainge's nine overtime points tied the record in the finals shared by Boston's John Havlicek against Milwaukee in 1974 and Detroit's Bill Laimbeer against Portland in 1990. By the numbers Portland's 18 points in overtime was the second-highest total in an NBA Finals game. The Lakers outscored New York 22-16 to win 121-115 on May 1, 1970. The teams set a record with a combined 27 three-point attempts. The mark had been 23 (L.A. and Detroit in 1989; Portland and Detroit in 1990). The Blazers are 8-0 at home in the playoffs, Chicago 4-3 on the road. After committing 21 turnovers in Game 1, Portland had only 10 Friday night. Jordan has scored 30 or more points in three consecutive NBA Finals games. The record? Elgin Baylor with 13. On their final four trips to the line Friday night, the Bulls missed the second free throw every time. Last word Ainge on why the Blazers won Game 2: "They got a little conservative and we kept them from the basket. Fortunately, Michael's cape fell off." _ JOHN HARRIS, TIMES WIRES
