Question: Please tell me the name of the girl singer who had a hit in the mid-'50s with The Man in the Raincoat. This youngster came from Canada and was 14 to 17 years old. I saw her perform the song on a TV variety show. _ Shiela, Clearwater. Dear Shiela: There were two hit versions of The Man in the Raincoat during the summer of 1955, one by Marion Marlowe (Cadence 1266) and another by Priscilla Wright (Unique 303). Chartwise the two releases ran neck and neck, with Marlowe's track reaching a slightly higher position (14 as opposed 16), but Wright's version spent seven weeks more on the charts than did Marion's. Marlowe sang The Man in the Raincoat on the Arthur Godfrey TV show, but Priscilla Wright also made TV appearances at the time. Here's the clincher though. Wright is a Canadian, (London, Ontario), and was just 14 at the time. She is the one you are trying to place. Original 45s of either of these can be had for $5 to $10. I know of no currently available reissues. Several other readers have asked about The Man in the Raincoat recently. Has this tune been revived, or used in a commercial somewhere that I have missed? Question: In the early '60s I heard a song from a Broadway show that I believe is titled Nag, or Nag, Nag. I won't go into my reasons why I want this record, but I would be most grateful if you could identify the correct title and name the show from which it came. No one I've asked has ever heard of this Nag. One musically keen friend suggested I might be thinking of Nag by the Halos, a 1961 pop hit. Although the period is right, the song is clearly not the one I'm seeking. You are my last hope. _ Stanley Holbert, Chicago Dear Stanley: Having eliminated Nag by the Halos, which is not from a Broadway show anyway, I suggest you are thinking of Nag! Nag! Nag!, a tune featured in the 1962 stage production Stop the World, I Want to Get Off. For $15 to $20 you can own a copy of this LP (London 88001) and end this nagging musical question. Question: Can you recommend a source where I can obtain a recording of Dungaree Doll by Eddie Fisher? _ Maxwell O. Reade, Ann Arbor, Mich. Dear Maxwell: From most music shops you can order Eddie Fisher _ All Time Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (RCA 9592-2). This CD has Dungaree Doll with 19 more memorable tunes by Fisher. IZ ZAT ZO? While many movie sound track and original cast albums have reached No. 1, only one TV sound track LP has managed to top the charts. It is Miami Vice, which raced to the coveted No. 1 position in late 1985. A sequel issued a year later, Miami Vice II, didn't fare nearly as well, reaching only No. 82.
