The death toll from the crash of an Angolan soccer team's private plane rose to 48 when investigators learned unlisted passengers had crowded on board just before takeoff. Original reports said 33 of 39 passengers had died in the crash on Angola's southern coast late Sunday. But investigators increased the casualty figure to 48 after panicked family members reported that their relatives had boarded the flight at the last minute. Five members of the Maboque Sports Club survived after the Spanish-made Casa-212 aircraft crashed late Sunday into a hillside near Catumbela, 250 miles south of Luanda, capital of the southern African nation. One member of the team who survived the crash died later Monday in Benguela hospital, state radio reported. Three were in critical condition, one had minor injuries and another was believed to be alive but wandering lost in the Angolan bush, state radio reported. The team was en route to a playoff game when air traffic controllers reported the plane missing. The accident's cause was not immediately clear.
