A man charged with murder in the shooting deaths of four hotel guests in Georgia, including two from Florida, waited Monday in a Tennessee jail for Georgia authorities to pick him up. Timothy Carl Dawson, 37, who is accused of killing three men in the Atlanta Hilton & Towers on Oct. 18 and another man at a College Park hotel three days earlier, waived his right to a formal extradition hearing. DeKalb County police said Monday night that Dawson also is suspected in the Oct. 5 death of a real estate broker. Raycell Mason, 44, was found shot to death in his home. Ballistics tests matched the weapon used to kill Mason with the one used in the hotel slayings, DeKalb County spokeswoman Mikki Jones said. Dawson, who was arrested this weekend for speeding by Memphis police, initially told authorities his name was Harry Lee Johnson of Stone Mountain. But after comparing photographs and fingerprints from an earlier arrest, he was identified as Dawson, Atlanta police spokesman John Quigley said Monday. Dawson, believed to be from the Atlanta area, had a police record stemming from 1995 charges for stalking and false imprisonment, Quigley said. At his extradition hearing Monday, a Tennessee judge dismissed the speeding charge and ordered Dawson held on murder charges for Georgia authorities, who were expected to return him to Georgia later that night. Dawson was stopped just east of Memphis by two Shelby County sheriff's deputies sometime after midnight Saturday for driving 12 mph over the speed limit. Authorities said Dawson was nervous and evasive, so a deputy searched his car. That search turned up a .45 caliber pistol and credit cards belonging to victims of the four hotel slayings in Atlanta _ all killed with a .45. The weapon recovered was sent to the state crime lab in Georgia to determine whether it is the same weapon used to kill Gerrold Shropshire, 50, of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; Ronald Gutkowski, 51, of Leesburg, Fla., and Phillip Dover, 31, of Gainesville, Ga., in the Hilton; and Ladaris Hawkins, 19, in College Park. "We're just continuing trying to find out if he's involved in anything other than those crimes we have so far," Quigley said. The two Shelby County deputies also found various pieces of identification belonging to Gutkowski, Dover, Hawkins and Linda Forest Reid of Greenville, S.C. Reid, in town for a women's Christian conference, was accosted and robbed in her Hilton Atlanta Northwest hotel room Oct. 11. She told police that a man burst into her room, forced her onto the floor, pointed a weapon to her head and demanded money. "He always called me ma'am," Reid said of her attacker. She escaped by locking herself in the bathroom. The deputies contacted Reid after Dawson's arrest. They told her they had found her credit card in Dawson's car. She then told the deputies about the Atlanta and College Park killings. Shropshire, Gutkowski and Dover were found shot to death in a room on the 24th floor of the Hilton. Hawkins was found shot in the face at a Days Inn in College Park. All four men had been shot more than once with the same .45-caliber weapon. All were found in their underwear. There was no forced entry into either of the hotel rooms, police have said. Although Atlanta police have not determined a motive in the Hilton slayings, College Park investigators believe the motive for Hawkins' death was drug-related, College Park Police Lt. Richard Chromi said.
