Production began late last month on an all-new adaptation of the acclaimed musical Annie, set to air in November 2000, as part of The Wonderful World of Disney on ABC. Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates stars as Miss Hannigan, and 12-year-old Alicia Morton, most recently seen on Broadway in Les Miserables, plays the lovable orphan named Annie. Additionally, Andrea McArdle, who starred as the original Annie on Broadway 20 years ago, will be featured in a special appearance in the film. Annie also stars an array of award-winning Broadway veterans. Four-time Tony nominee Victor Garber, who co-starred in Titanic and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella for The Wonderful World of Disney, has been cast in the role of Daddy Warbucks. Alan Cumming, who won a Tony Award for his performance in Cabaret last year and will be seen in the upcoming Stanley Kubrick film Eyes Wide Shut, portrays the dastardly Miss Hannigan's shady brother, Rooster. Three-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald has been cast as Grace Farrell, Oliver Warbucks' devoted personal assistant, and recent Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth plays Lily St. Regis, Rooster's beautiful but dim new girlfriend. Rounding out the cast of orphans are Marissa Rago as Pepper, Danelle Wilson as Duffy, Nanea Miyata as July, Lalaine as Kate, Sarah Hyland as Molly and Erin Adams as Tessie. Adams, in her first professional role, was discovered in New York as a result of nationwide, open-call auditions. Filming entirely on location in Los Angeles, Annie is a Storyline Entertainment and Chris Montan Production in association with Walt Disney Television for The Wonderful World of Disney. _ Times wires
