Hey Boo Boo, the Lightning made a trade. The team picked up right wing Jaroslav "Yogi" Svejkovsky from Washington on Monday for a pair of draft picks: a seventh-rounder in the 2000 draft, and a third-rounder in 2001. Svejkovsky, 23, was the Caps' second choice of the first round (17th overall) in the 1996 draft, and has shown a bit of a scoring touch in the NHL. In 84 games over the past three seasons, Svejkovsky (pronounced: svezh-KOV-ski) has 18 goals and 14 assists. He also has been somewhat of a Lightning killer. In five games against Tampa Bay, Svejkovsky has four goals and an assist. This season, though, Svejkovsky has struggled. He scored opening night, then hasn't scored since, a span of 22 games. He also has been a bit injury prone in his career and has been a healthy scratch in seven of the past eight games, including Monday's game against the Lightning. "He really hasn't had much of a chance to play this season, and we think given the right situation, he can be a top two-line player for us," general manager Rick Dudley said. "And he's more than a goal-scorer. From what I've seen, he's pretty committed to (defense), and a solid two-way player." A native of Plzen, Czech Republic, Svejkovsky (6 feet 1, 193 pounds) was rated the sixth-best prospect outside the NHL in 1996-97 by the Hockey News. He is in the first year of a three-year contract that pays him $550,000 this season, $600,000 next season and $650,000 in 2001-02. WEIGHT ON HIS SHOULDERS: Lightning defenseman Petr Svoboda re-aggravated a left shoulder injury, and this time, he may miss a few games. He will have an MRI today but wasn't optimistic about being able to play the next couple of games. "I think it's getting to the point where I may have to rest it," Svoboda said. "I'll know more (today)." Svoboda has battled a shoulder problem for two seasons, and missed a game and a half on the road trip to Western Canada. He left after the first period Monday. BLACK AND BLUE: The Lightning had more bad news on the injury front Monday. Forward Steve Guolla had to be placed on injured reserve with his sore groin. Stan Drulia (concussion) and Todd Warriner (hip flexor) missed Monday's game and are day to day. Defenseman Sergey Gusev, out for the season with a torn right ACL, will have surgery Wednesday. Defenseman Andrei Zyuzin remains out indefinitely with a separated right shoulder, and surgery is a possibility. He may not play again this season. _ TOM JONES
