- Victor Crist, 61, has been a commissioner since 2010. The Republican is also a former state lawmaker. He is switching from District 2 to avoid term limits. Outside of politics, he is the owner and president of a local advertising agency. - Mariella Smith, 64, is a fourth-generation Tampa native. She lives in Ruskin and has owned InSight Graphic Design since 1988. This is her first try at elected office. - District 5 covers all of Hillsborough County. Commissioners serve a four-year term and are paid an annual salary of $99,997.- Democrats are hoping Smith leads the way to a party majority on the seven-seat commission.
