Marion Hammer, the chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association in Florida, communicates regularly with Florida officials on everything from gun legislation to spam phone calls, a set of released emails has revealed.

The Times acquired all emails between Hammer and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services from 2014 through early 2018. The Department provided the emails days after Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam lost a primary race for governor.

The Times decided to redact Hammer’s private email address and all cell phone numbers where possible. Also excluded are some 1,700 pages of attachments relating to records of animals transferred across state lines.
