EAST LAKE — A 15-year-old girl on her way to East Lake High School was struck by a car and critically injured Wednesday while trying to cross East Lake Road on her bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Janeva Love Buczynski of Palm Harbor was in a crosswalk at Pine Ridge Boulevard trying to cross from the west to the east side of East Lake Road at about 6:50 a.m. Then she entered the path of a Saturn sedan traveling south on East Lake Road, troopers said.

The driver of the Saturn, 51-year-old Michelle Nash of Holiday, had a green signal at the time of the crash, troopers said.

Buczynski was critically injured and flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. She was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. Nash was cited for driving with a suspended license.
