ST. PETERSBURG — One man was killed and another injured in an early Saturday shooting along 18th Avenue S, police said.
The shooting happened at about 1 a.m. at the Food Max Meat Market on 18th Avenue S, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Both men were taken to the hospital, where Bernard Nixon, 38, was pronounced dead. The other, who police did not identify, was in critical condition Saturday.
Police arrested Darren Lamont Williams, 49, on charges of murder in the second degree, attempted murder in the second degree, and felon in possession of a firearm.
A crowd had gathered at the market early Saturday morning when an argument broke out, police said. According to police affidavits, Williams pulled a handgun from his right pocket and fired repeatedly at two men in the parking lot.
Nixon was shot at least twice, police said, including in the face and chest. The other man was shot three times in the back, police said. Williams got rid of the gun before police arrived.
