The Buzz caught up with Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., who played football at Wake Forest and was, briefly, a teammate of Charlie Crist. The two remained friends and were both surrogates for John McCain in 2008.

"Charlie wasn't at Wake Forest that long, but he walked on the football team so I got to know him," Burr said. "As evidenced by his political career, Charlie had a lot of drive. He was a good guy."

On Crist running as a Democrat: "Charlie seems to be in search of a title. Any time a political figure seems to either give up or change their foundational beliefs, which he did, it's pretty tough to come back from that. This is an uphill battle for him."

Crist left Wake for Florida State. Today, the Seminoles beat the Demon Deacons 59-3.
