TAMPA — Two Tampa women, 23 and 24, were killed early Tuesday when one collided head-on with the other while driving the wrong way on Dale Mabry Highway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The collision occurred at about 3 a.m. near the intersection with Gunn Highway/Busch Boulevard.
The 24-year-old driver was headed south in a sport utility vehicle when, for unknown reasons, she crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with the other car, the Highway Patrol said. Both women died at the scene.
The Highway Patrol did not release their names because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
